| Love under the Brooklyn Bridge. |
We did it! On Saturday, September 15th, 2012 - the most glorious blue-sky sunny day in all the land (I kid you not when I woke up that morning, checked the weather on my phone, and then fist-pumped my way out of bed) - Dan and I became lawful husband and wife.
The last month has been, oh, not even "whirlwind" will suffice . . . let's call it more of a Category 5 hurricane with lashings of tsunami. Shit got emotional. I laughed, I cried, I napped. I haven't needed (like actually, physically, required) a nap to continue functioning since my sophomore year of college when my roommate and I would get sloshed on bottles of 99 Bananas whilst watching new episodes of The Apprentice and then waking up for an 8:00 AM calculus class. I would come back to the dorm after calculus, climb the ladder into my lofted bed, then fall dead asleep in my jeans and LL Bean sweater until it was time to wake up for Philosophy 266: The Concept of Human Rights, which I ROCKED, thankyouverymuch.
But, besides the napping, getting married is really nothing like college at all. It's a different ball game altogether. Immediately after the ceremony, Dan turned to me and asked, "Do you feel different?" And at that moment, I didn't. I felt nervous and excited and a bit relieved, but I didn't feel that our relationship had changed: we were just as in love as the day before, and the day before that, and so on.
And yet, just ten days later, I feel altered. Something about being husband and wife has fundamentally deepened and strengthened our love. It's thrilling.
There are literally hundreds of photos of our day (modern technology, woot!) which I am slowly whittling down to a few dozen favorites that I'll share here, along with some of the best bits of advice I can offer on getting married in New York City without spending seventeen gazillion dollars. More like sixteen gazillion.
Anyway, here's a gratuitous photo of us kissing, which is one of my favorite things and I don't care if you barf from the cuteness because I'm a newlywed now and therefore allowed to do shit like this for at least a year:

Also, that cute little Asian lady clapping in the background? Yeah, no idea who she is.
Bye!

YES! My (nonexistent) photography skills have made the cut! Woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteAlso, being married is awesome.
Yes! Your photography skills are phenomenal - some of my favorite shots from the day are from you and Mark! Also, with regards to being married: so far so GREAT. :-D
DeleteAre your feet off the ground in that pic? Dan's slightly tallish.
ReplyDeleteHaha, no. My feet were firmly on the ground, ensconced in 4-inch high heels.
